Welcome

The Humphrey Company
One of the most memorable rides at our old amusement park—Euclid Beach (1895-1969)—was called Laff in the Dark. A photo of the ride's entrance can be seen below. The Laff in the Dark opened in 1931 in the same building the ride it replaced (The Witching Wolves) had been in. It remained a popular attraction until the park closed. It was a classic "dark ride"—a fun house in the dark that patrons rode through in 2-3 person cars attached to and powered by a central guide rail. Although the track was smooth and not jerky, there were 30 U-turns throughout, so riders never knew where they were going next or where the next stunt would be. Various stunts in the ride included, among others, a large sliding spider, monsters, sirens, wavy mirrors, a brick wall the cars busted through, and a revolving barrel studded with fluorescent stars the cars went through. This year's ornament features elements of the Laff in the Dark.
