Although the rides from our old amusement park, Euclid Beach (1895-1969), were either torn down or sold to other parks, we know the location of only one: The Great American Racing Derby.

The ride, renamed Cedar Downs, currently operates at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. It was originally installed at Euclid Beach in 1921, and was moved to Cedar Point in 1966. As you can see from the photo below, the hand carved horses were in rows of four; they moved forward and backward, and up and down, on a revolving platform. The winning horse in a row was the one that was ahead of the other horses when the ride stopped.

This year's holiday ornament depicts The Great American Racing Derby.
